DRAGONFRUIT RED FLESH FRESH SEEDS – RED ON THE OUTSIDE AND THE INSIDE! $2.30

Dragonfruit with Red Flesh is a truly exotic and eye-catching fruiting cactus, prized for its stunning looks and refreshing taste. Native to Central and South America, dragonfruit has been grown for centuries by the Maya and other Indigenous peoples, where it was valued as both food and medicine. Today it is widely cultivated in tropical and subtropical regions worldwide.

Dragonfruit is low in calories but rich in goodness. The red-fleshed varieties are especially high in antioxidants, vitamin C, fibre, magnesium, and betalains (the pigments that give the flesh its vibrant colour). Eating dragonfruit can support immunity, aid digestion, and provide a hydrating, refreshing snack. The seeds are edible too, and are a source of healthy omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids.

Besides being eaten fresh straight from the fruit, dragonfruit is often used in smoothies, fruit salads, desserts, and drinks. The bright red flesh also makes a beautiful natural food colouring. In some traditional medicines, the fruit and flowers were used to ease inflammation and support overall wellbeing.

How it Grows
Dragonfruit is a climbing cactus with long, three-sided stems that can reach several metres in length if supported. It produces spectacular, fragrant white flowers that open at night – some of the largest blooms in the plant world. These are pollinated by moths or bats in nature, but in the garden hand-pollination can improve fruit set. Once pollinated, the plant produces oval, scaly fruits with their trademark bright skin and colourful flesh inside. Plants thrive in warm, frost-free regions and can live for many years, producing crops once they mature.

How to Grow From Seed:

Scatter seeds on the surface of a free-draining cactus or seed-raising mix and cover very lightly.

Keep moist but not waterlogged, and place in a warm, bright spot.

Germination usually occurs within 1–3 weeks.

Once seedlings are large enough to handle, pot them into individual containers.

Dragonfruit needs full sun and support such as a trellis, post, or frame to climb.

Plant in well-draining soil and water regularly in summer, but allow the soil to dry between waterings to prevent rot. In cooler areas, it is best grown in a large pot that can be moved under cover during cold weather.

Plants grown from seed may take 3–5 years to produce fruit, but they reward you with their spectacular flowers and unique harvests. Seed grown Dragonfruit may have different colours and may not be true to the parent. Variegation, outer colour changes, flesh colour changes and more can be explored when growing from seed.

DRAGONFRUIT YELLOW WITH WHITE FLESH EASY GROWING! GREAT FOR BEGINNERS! $2.20

NEW! DRAGONFRUIT YELLOW IS SUCCULENT AND SWEET, IT REALLY IS SOMETHING EXTRA SPECIAL! EASY TO GROW – GREAT FOR BEGINNERS!

Whenever someone tells me that they’re a black thumb, I often tell them to try dragonfruit. Also known as pitaya, dragonfruit is a hemi-epiphytic cactus that produces large and tasty fruits with coloured skin and a surprising flesh that’s peppered with tiny black seeds.

These seeds are really easy to germinate, and the patient gardener will one day be rewarded with a fruit bearing plant of their own!! Each fruit has hundreds of seeds, and almost every one of them has the potential to someday become a fruit bearing vine. Almost every single one of the seeds I planted have sprouted, and each of those seedlings is doing wonderfully to this day.

Even though they do well in the shade, they’ll never flower on a shady balcony and will eventually have to be trained up trellises in large containers in a warm and sunny spot.
Mixed seeds, plants generally have the pink flower but may have white, yellow or red.

Seeds can be brittle, so we give you 33% more seeds than quoted.

SMALL SIZED BLACK SEEDS, EASY TO SEE AND HANDLE. PLANT THESE AFTER THE LAST FROST AND KEEP THEM WARM – LOOK UP THE RIGHT TIME TO PLANT IN YOUR AREA BEFORE STARTING.

Grow Notes
Plant in full sun in well-draining soils.

Sow
Raise seedlings in Spring in seed starter or cactus soil mix, planting at 5mm depth.

Cover with a plastic, the cover will retain moisture and warmth.

Keep soil moist but never wet.

The tiny seedlings emerge with two glossy leaflets, and the stems will slowly begin to grow in their community pot until they need to be divided. New offshoots will begin to form at the bases of the stems.

Gently untangle the mass of cacti and potted most of them up individually. Even though they do well in the shade, they’ll never flower on a shady balcony and will eventually have to be trained up trellises in large containers in a warm and sunny spot.

Germination
14-21 days at 18-25°C

Maturity
Seed-grown dragon fruit trees may take up to seven years to fruit, and the plant might not look like the parent plant.

Mesembryanthemum crystallinum or ICE PLANT is a prostrate succulent plant native to Africa, Sinai and southern Europe, and naturalized in North America, South America and Australia. The plant is covered with large, glistening bladder cells or water vesicles, reflected in its common names of common ice plant, crystalline ice plant or ice plant.

The bladder cells are enlarged epidermal cells. The main function of these bladder cells is to reserve water. It can be annual, biennial or perennial, but its life cycle is usually completed within several months, depending on environmental conditions.

A very ornamental plant, it is occasionally cultivated for its edible leaves, the flowers are often used as a garnish in high class restaurants. The plants have few problems with pests or diseases.

The seeds are small and fine, mix with grains of sand to spread them about evenly, beware not to keep them too wet, they prefer a drier environment when geminating though you should keep the surface of the soil slightly damp. These must be sprayed with fungicide once germinated. Fungicide suitable for these can be found in any black spot style Rose spray, and you can also use that on all your new seedlings. Keep well ventilated.

VERY SMALL SEEDS. MIX WITH FINE GRAINS OF SAND IF NEEDED TO AID DISTRIBUTION OF SEEDS.

Grow Notes
Easily grown in an ordinary well-drained garden soil. Succeeds in any well-drained low-fertility soil so long as it is in a full sun position.

Sow
Sow direct in Spring, only just covering the seed with a sprinkle of sand as they need some light to germinate. Lightly water.

When they are large enough to handle, prick the seedlings out into individual pots and plant them out after the last expected frosts.

Seedlings are prone to dampening off so should not be over watered and should be kept in a very sunny well-ventilated position, spray with fungicide once seeds sprout.

Germination
7-14 days at 18-24°C

Maturity
195+ days.

LIVINGSTONE DAISY! A FASCINATING HABIT OF ONLY OPENING IN THE SUNSHINE! YOU CAN ACTUALLY WATCH THEM OPENING AND CLOSING AS THE CLOUDS PASS OVER! A VERY SUNNY AND HAPPY FLOWER! GORGEOUS COLOURS! SUCCULENT STEMS FOR DROUGHT TOLERANCE!

Livingstone daisies belong to one of many species that are simply described as being daisy-like. Like the daisy, it has many long, slender flower petals with slightly rounded points at the ends.

One of the best-loved features about this species is that it comes in a wide variety of colours, including white, pink, fuchsia, purple, yellow, red, and orange. Many are even multicoloured, like the fuchsia-yellow and red-orange varieties.

They are re-bloomers, which means that they will continue to produce flowers until the growth season has ended. This is particularly beneficial to individuals who like to enjoy cut flowers indoors while still having plenty of blooms outside for landscaping aesthetics.

This plant produces very bright and eye-catching flowers that are sure to make your planting and care efforts well worthwhile!

Gardeners like the Livingstone daisy for its habit of carpeting a patch of ground with bright-coloured blooms. A large garden bed or plot of land seeded with this annual flower is a cheery sight that provides non-stop colour. The Livingstone daisy will draw butterflies to a garden and brighten up a dull spot, and it also does well in a rock garden or scattered along a walkway among paving bricks or stones.

The Livingstone daisy also is known as Dorotheanthus bellidiformis, but some seed manufacturers and gardeners still call it by its old name, Mesembryanthemum, a Greek word that refers to the flower?s habit of opening only in full sun.

Another name for this succulent is ice plant, which comes from the plant appearing as if it is sporting small drops of shiny ice. These droplets, a kind of water blister, are known as bladders.

The bright flower originated in South Africa and was first described by a 17th century botanist. It is believed the name Mesembryanthemum was first ascribed to the Livingstone daisy in the mid-18th century.

The seeds first travelled to North America by ship in the early 16th century, unintentionally mixed with sand that was brought aboard as ballast. When the ship landed in North America to take on cargo, the sand was discarded and the flower seeds took root, spreading quickly. One common use for the Livingstone daisy is as a form of erosion control.

SEEDS ARE SMALL.

Grow Notes
Prefers full sun in well-draining soil.

The Livingstone daisy is drought tolerant.

A mature plant will protect itself from night-time moisture in the air, and in overcast weather, by its habit of opening only in full sun. The plant reaches 20cm tall and 30cm wide.

Sow
Sow direct or raise seedlings in Autumn, early Winter (and Spring in cool climates) by planting seeds 3mm deep. Space plants 15cms apart.

Keep soil moist, not wet until germination. After this ease off to allow the soil to dry out between watering.

Germination
7-14 days at 15-25°C

Maturity
140 days.
