Shirley Poppies – These delicate charmers come in soft pastel shades and look like little hand-painted watercolours. We have these in single and doubles in a huge range of mixed colours!
Flanders Poppies – Iconic and deeply meaningful, these red blooms are symbolic of remembrance and resilience.
California Poppies – Bright and sunny, they bring a burst of joy to your garden and are super easy to grow.
Iceland Poppies – Huge flowers! With their luminous colours and crinkly petals, they make fabulous cut flowers and thrive in cooler climates so winter is the best time to start these.
Frilled Rose – One of our most favourite and our customers favourites too! Delicate rosy frilled petals that gleam!
Shades of Grey – A romantic twist on the most delicate colours of lilac and grey – has to be seen to be believed!
Peony Poppies – These glamorous, frilly blooms resemble a cross between a poppy and a peony – absolutely breathtaking in the garden. We have them in all the colours of the rainbow as a mixed packet and in a pure black form for some drama in your garden beds!
?? When to Plant Poppies
Timing is everything when it comes to poppies! In most parts of Australia, the best time to sow your poppy seeds is in late autumn to early winter (April to July). This gives them a head start to grow strong before bursting into bloom in late winter and spring.
If you’re in a warmer region, you might also get away with sowing in early spring – just make sure they’re not hit by any scorching days while they’re young.
? In the Garden or in Pots – Poppies Love It All!
Poppies are incredibly versatile and can flourish in both garden beds and containers.
In the garden:
They adore full sun and well-drained soil. Scatter seeds over the soil surface and gently press them in — they need light to germinate, so don’t bury them! Once they sprout, thin them out a bit to give each plant room to thrive.
In pots:
Use a deep pot with good drainage, and a quality potting mix. Iceland and California poppies do particularly well in containers. Pop them on a sunny balcony or patio, and you’ll have a joyful flower show in no time!
