CHILLI 7 POT PRIMO YELLOW

Description
The Yellow 7 Pot is highly sought after and difficult to obtain. This super-hot got its name because it’s thought that one of these chillies is enough to add heat to 7 pots of stew.
In Trinidad, it is used in military grade tear gas and marine paint, which prevents barnacles! The heat of the 7-Pot pepper is similar to the Bhut Jolokia but with a more fruity and nutty flavour, like other Caribbean peppers.
SCOVILLE HEAT UNITS: OVER 1 MILLION SHU

Grow Notes
These are extremely hot! Wear gloves when handling seed and fruit, keep away from children. Wash hands thoroughly after handling, especially before touching your face.

Plant in full sun but keep well-watered. They need a well-drained soil enriched with plenty of organic matter.

Can be grown in containers or gardens. Once fruiting plants may need staking if starting to lean. Pick regularly to encourage more fruit.

Chilli plants are susceptible to mildews and need protection from aphids.

Sow
Sow direct or in pots in Spring, after chances of frost has passed. If living in a warmer climate they can be grown in any season. Sow 5mm deep with 50cm spacing and 100cm between rows.

Keep soil moist but never wet.

Chilli Aji Mochero is a distinctive variety of chili pepper known for its unique flavor and heat. This pepper originates from Peru and is cherished for its fruity and slightly citrusy taste, making it an excellent addition to a variety of culinary dishes.

Chilli Aji Mochero grows as a compact, bushy plant that reaches about 60-90 cm in height. The peppers are small, typically around 3-5 cm long, and mature from green to a bright yellow or orange color. The plant is relatively easy to grow and can be cultivated in containers or garden beds.

To grow Chilli Aji Mochero from seed, start by preparing the seeds. Soak them in warm water for 12-24 hours to help soften the seed coat and improve germination. Fill seed trays or small pots with a well-draining seed-starting mix, and plant the seeds about 0.5 cm deep. Place the trays or pots in a warm, sunny location, ideally with a temperature of 25-30°C. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.

Germination should occur within 7-14 days. Once the seedlings have developed two to three true leaves, they can be transplanted into larger pots or directly into the garden. When planting in the garden, ensure that the soil is rich, well-draining, and has been amended with compost or organic matter. Space the plants about 45-60 cm apart to allow for adequate air circulation and growth.

Chilli Aji Mochero plants require full sun and should receive at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight each day. Water the plants regularly to maintain even soil moisture, but avoid overwatering as this can lead to root rot. Mulching around the plants can help retain soil moisture and suppress weeds.

Fertilize the plants every 3-4 weeks with a balanced, all-purpose fertilizer to promote healthy growth and fruit production. Keep an eye out for common pests such as aphids, whiteflies, and spider mites, and treat infestations promptly with appropriate organic or chemical controls. Additionally, ensure good air circulation around the plants to minimize the risk of fungal diseases.

Harvest the peppers when they have reached their full color and size, typically 75-90 days after planting. Use a sharp knife or scissors to cut the peppers from the plant, leaving a small portion of the stem attached. Regular harvesting can encourage the plant to produce more fruit throughout the growing season.

Description
Anaheim chilli peppers are defined by their elongated curved lime green pod and their mild, sweet flavour. The chilli’s skin is waxy, glossy and semi thick. Inside the pod is a thin white seeded membrane. Raw Anaheim chillies are bright, succulent and slightly peppery in flavour. Cooked Anaheim chillies, whether slow roasted or grilled obtain a depth of rich, sweet and tangy flavours.

Anaheim chillies are harvested immature anywhere between four inches and ten inches in length. If allowed to reach maturity, Anaheim chillies will eventually turn a deep red colour, lose their moisture and shrink significantly in size. A mild-flavoured pepper it ranges from 500 to 2,500 units on the Scoville scale.

Anaheim chilli peppers are available year-round with a peak season in mid-summer.

Anaheim chilli peppers, also known as the California chili or Magdalena is a perennial chilli pepper grown primarily as an annual. When reaching full maturity, the Anaheim chilli is also known as Chilli Colorado. In dried form the Anaheim chilli is called chilli Seco Del Norte.

Anaheim chillies are of the species, Capsicum annuum, a species of peppers native to South America. All Capsicum annuum cultivars are green when unripe and will eventually become red, some turning brown and near black when reaching full maturity. The Anaheim chilli’s principal use is for canning, though they are also sold widely as a fresh market mild chilli pepper.

The Brazilian Starfish chilli, also known as Capsicum baccatum ‘Brazilian Starfish’, is a unique and vibrant cultivar originating from South America. It stands out due to its distinct star-like shape, resembling a starfish when fully grown. The peppers are typically bright red or orange, with a wrinkled texture and a spicy heat level ranging from moderate to hot, depending on the growing conditions.

To grow Brazilian Starfish chilli from seed start indoors around early spring (September to October). Use a well-draining seed-raising mix and sow the seeds about 5 mm deep. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Germination usually takes around 1-2 weeks, depending on temperature and soil conditions.

Once the seedlings have developed their first true leaves, transplant them into larger pots or directly into the garden bed. Choose a sunny spot with at least 6-8 hours of sunlight daily. In terms of spacing, allow about 30-45 cm between plants to ensure they have ample room to grow.

Brazilian Starfish chillies thrive in warm conditions, ideally between 20-30°C. During the growing season, maintain soil moisture by watering regularly, especially during dry spells. However, avoid over watering to prevent root rot.

Fertilize the plants every 4-6 weeks with a balanced organic fertilizer, following the manufacturer’s instructions. Mulching around the base of the plants can help retain moisture and suppress weeds.

As the chillies mature, they will change from green to vibrant red or orange. Harvest them when they reach full color and firmness, using scissors or pruning shears to cut them from the plant to avoid damaging the stems.

CHILLI ETHIOPIAN BROWN IS ALSO CALLED BERBERE AND ARISES FROM A SMALL STRETCH ALONG THE EASTERN COAST AFRICA NEAR THE RED SEA. MEDIUM TO HOT HEAT. VERY RARE IN CULTIVATION, VERY LIMITED STOCKS!

These fascinating chilies trace their origins to the first varieties brought to Africa by Portuguese explorers in the 15th and 16th centuries. Often found in markets dried and used as a spice called Berbere, they are a staple in many African cuisines.

The glossy, smooth fruits have a medium heat that builds gradually. They are an excellent source of vitamins C, B6, and A, as well as iron, copper, and potassium. Additionally, they contain capsaicin, which has anti-inflammatory properties and has been linked to weight loss.

Description
A delicious super-hot chilli that is fruity and sweet!
Measuring in between 1000,000 to 3500,000 Scoville Heat Units, the Habanero was the world’s hottest chilli before it was taken over by the Red Savina in 1994 (super-hot varieties have since taken over).

The Habanero is commonly used in sauces. This Habanero ripens to a bright orange. Its skin is thin and waxy with some wrinkling. Their pods have a distinctive lantern-like shape.

Many people think of the jalapeño as a very spicy hot pepper, but in terms of the Scoville scale, the jalapeño is merely mild to moderate. It has a Scoville heat unit range of 2,500 to 8,000 Scoville heat units (SHU).

Jalapeño is one of the most popular chilli varieties. Jalapeños were named after the city of Jalapa. Today this city in Mexico is called “Xalapa de Enríquez”. In 1982, the Jalapeno was the first chili to enter space! An astronaut took several pods as a snack to eat it in the space shuttle.

Jalapeno chili plants are easy to grow. Their chilli peppers can already be harvested green. Whether green or red, they can be used in many recipes. The crunchy pods have a pleasant spiciness. The slightly sour paprika taste is perfect for sauces, salads and stuffed chilli peppers.

CHILLI SERRANO USUALLY RIPENS FROM GREEN TO RED BUT OFTEN YOU WILL GET THE COLOURS OF BROWN, YELLOW AND ORANGE.

Description
The serrano pepper (Capsicum annuum) is a type of chilli pepper that originated in the mountainous regions of the Mexican states of Puebla and Hidalgo. The name of the pepper is a reference to the mountains (sierras) of these regions.
The Scoville rating of the serrano pepper is 10,000 to 23,000. They are typically eaten raw and have a bright and biting flavour that is notably hotter than the jalapeño pepper. Serrano peppers are also commonly used in making pico de gallo and salsa, as the chilli is particularly fleshy compared to others, making it ideal for such dishes.
It is the second most used chilli pepper in Mexican cuisine. The Mexican states of Veracruz, Sinaloa, Nayarit, and Tamaulipas produce about 180,000 tons of serranos each year.
Mature serrano pepper plants reach a height of 0.5 to 1.5 m (1.5 to 5.0 ft) tall. Each plant can hold up to 50 pepper pods. The fruit can be harvested while they are green or ripe. Unripe serrano peppers are green, but the colour varies at maturity; common colours for the ripe fruit are green, red, brown, orange, and yellow.
Serrano peppers do better in soils with a pH between 7.0 and 8.5 in warm temperatures above 24 °C and have a low tolerance for frost.

The Skinny Green chili, scientifically known as Capsicum annuum ‘Skinny Green’, is believed to have originated in South America, particularly in regions where Capsicum annuum varieties are traditionally grown. It is characterized by its elongated shape, typically measuring around 10-15 cm in length and about 1-2 cm in width. The peppers are bright green when immature and gradually turn red as they mature, although they are often harvested and consumed in their green stage.

To grow Skinny Green chili from seed, begin by sowing seeds indoors around early spring (September to October). Use a well-draining seed-raising mix and plant the seeds about 5 mm deep. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged to facilitate germination, which usually occurs within 1-2 weeks under optimal conditions.

Once the seedlings have developed their first true leaves, they can be transplanted into larger pots or directly into a prepared garden bed. Choose a sunny location that receives at least 6-8 hours of sunlight daily. Ensure the soil is fertile, well-draining, and enriched with organic matter.

Maintain consistent moisture levels throughout the growing season by watering regularly, particularly during dry periods. Avoid water logging the soil, as it can lead to root rot.

Fertilize the plants every 4-6 weeks with a balanced organic fertilizer, following the recommended dosage on the product label. Mulching around the base of the plants can help retain moisture, suppress weeds, and maintain soil temperature.

As the Skinny Green chilies mature, they will develop their characteristic bright green color. Harvest them when they reach the desired size and color, using scissors or pruning shears to cut them from the plant to avoid damaging the stems.

BIRDSEYE CHILLI MIX IS ALL HARD HITTING FLAVOUR AND HEAT, GREAT VIVID COLOURS, GREEN, RED, PURPLE, ORANGE.

Description

Bird’s eye chilli peppers are frequently used to add spice in Southeast Asian cuisine. These small chillies grow on compact bushes in hot weather climates. Whether raw, dried, or cooked, these potent peppers pack real heat, making them ideal for spicing up dishes or creating fiery sauces.

Bird’s eye chillies are small, thin, and pointy, turning red when mature. They are green when unripe but can still be eaten, and sometimes appear orange or purple depending on their maturity. In Thai cuisine, green peppers are typically used in green curries, while the hotter, mature red peppers are used in red curries. When fresh, they often have a stem still attached and contain loose, edible seeds that are especially spicy. The peppers can be used whole, sliced, or seeded and diced.

Bird’s eye chilli peppers are extensively used in Thai, Vietnamese, Malaysian, and Indonesian cuisines. Fresh or dried chillies are added to salads, stir-fries, curries, sauces, sambals, soups, and marinades. The stems are removed, and the chillies can be left whole, sliced, diced, chopped, or pureed. The seeds are particularly spicy and can be removed for less intense heat.

It’s advisable to wear gloves when working with these chillies, especially if you wear contact lenses. Capsaicin, the chemical in the pepper that makes it hot, can remain on your fingers for several hours and can cause a painful sting if you touch your face, particularly the eye area. To prevent unnecessary discomfort, wear gloves and thoroughly clean the knife, surfaces, and any utensils the cut chillies came into contact with before handling.

Highly recommended for beginners!

Known as Piri Piri, which is Swahili for ‘pepper pepper,’ these chilies may be small, but they deliver intense heat.

Grow Notes
Wear gloves when handling seed and fruit, keep away from children. Wash hands thoroughly after handling, especially before touching your face.

Plant in full sun but keep well-watered. They need a well-drained soil enriched with plenty of organic matter.

Can be grown in containers or gardens. Once fruiting plants may need staking if starting to lean. Pick regularly to encourage more fruit.

Chilli plants are susceptible to mildews so water at the base and don’t leave the plant leaves wet overnight, best to water in the morning or at least a few hours before sundown.

If bacteria or fungi are already present in low numbers, they can quickly grow to very high numbers in optimal conditions. This includes many bacteria in soil that can cause problems in people – such as strains of nocardia (causes nocardiosis, an infection of the lungs or whole body), legionella (causes Legionnaires’ disease), and clostridium (causes tetanus).

Potting mix is usually a mixture of inorganic and organic material. It’s also often at a higher temperature compared to soil because of where and how it’s stored, so it retains heat for longer. Bacteria and fungi generally grow better and reach higher numbers when they are in moist and warm environments.

Numerous fungi can also be present in soil and potting mix. In certain areas of the world, soil contains fungi that can invade if inhaled and cause disease. These include the lung infection histoplasmosis, which is caused by a fungus that lives mainly in parts of the United States, but also in some parts of Central and South America, Africa, Asia, and Australia.

The risk to most people of becoming infected with any of these bacterial or fungal diseases is very low. Disease is more likely to be a risk when the micro-organisms are present in very high numbers.

Bacteria or fungi also need to be introduced into our bodies to cause disease. This usually happens through inhalation, where the organisms go into the lungs. It can also occur through the skin, such as with the chronic fungal infection sporotrichosis, also known as “rose gardener’s disease”. If, for any reason, micro-organisms are present in high numbers, then the exposure and risk will be higher.

There are many things we can do to protect ourselves from introducing bacteria or fungi into our bodies. The most essential is basic hygiene.

If people smoke, eat or drink without first washing their hands, they are at an increased risk of legionella infection from potting mix. This implies direct inhalation isn’t the only way for the bacteria to enter the body, but that oral intake of micro-organisms via contaminated hands is also a risk.

Another added protection measure is wearing gloves. This doesn’t mean you should then not wash your hands before eating. A physical barrier in addition to washing hands obviously provides better protection.

Masks can be worn in high-risk situations, such as when opening a bag of potting mix. Directing the bag away from yourself when opened, and being in a well-ventilated area, will decrease any inhalation risk.

People who have a lower immunity, such as those with diseases such as HIV or lymphoma, diabetes, any immunosuppressant use, or generally older in age are more at risk of catching something from potting mix. So it’s even more important they use extra appropriate precautions, including wearing masks when in higher-risk situations.
