CABBAGE MICHIHILI WONG BOK CHINESE CABBAGE 1.8 KILO HEADS OF REFRESHING CRISP CABBAGE! $1.30

MICHIHILI CHINESE CABBAGE, A MORE OPEN CABBAGE THAT CAN BE USED IN ANYTHING FROM SALADS TO CHINESE COOKERY!

This is a loose leaf form of Chinese Cabbage, the head reaches the taller height of about 40cm and it’s about 15cm across fully grown. The tall shape makes it great to pack more into your garden. The flavour is subtle and pleasant, they are crisper, more refreshing and less fibrous than normal European cabbages.

Great in loads of dishes, it’s versatility makes it a beloved plant all through the world where it can be grown almost anywhere. Each head usually weighs about 1.8 kilos so it’s a dense and productive plant.

Planting this fast growing cabbage from seed is so easy. Plant the seeds 30cms  apart then simply stand back. Once the secondary leaves appear you are a mere 30 days away from using it in your next meal!

Position:

Grow Chinese cabbage in full sun in cool regions and in partial shade in warm regions. Plant in well-worked, well-drained but moisture retentive soil rich in organic matter. Add aged compost to planting beds before planting and side dress crops with compost again at midseason.

Sow seeds directly in the garden as early as 4 to 6 weeks before the last average frost date.

Grow Notes
Best grown in full sun or part shade.

Stagger your sowing, plant some then give it a week or two and plant some more and you will have cabbages over a more extended time to harvest.

Protect your cabbages from the caterpillar of the cabbage moth by tying old bits of white cloth in a bow shape to pieces of stick or wire, add them all over your cabbage patch and other white moths won’t land as they see their babies will not have enough to eat as many other moths have got there before them – it works!!!

Sow
Sow direct or raise seedlings to transplant into the garden once established. Plant in early Spring, late Summer and Autumn at 5mm depth, 45cm apart with 60cm between rows.

Keep soil moist but never wet or dry.

Germination
7-14 days at 7-28°C

Maturity
55 days.
