CHRYSANTHEMUM DUNETTI CARINATUM STRIPED FIELDS OF FLOWERS EASY GROWER SEEDS $2.30

Chrysanthemum ‘Dunetti’ is a cultivar of Chrysanthemum carinatum, also known as the tricolour daisy or painted daisy. This species originates from North Africa and is native to Algeria and Morocco. Over time, it has been cultivated widely in Europe and other temperate regions for ornamental use. The ‘Dunetti’ variety is known for its richly coloured, velvety flowers with a striking ring near the centre, making it particularly eye-catching in cottage gardens and flower beds.

HOW IT GROWS
‘Dunetti’ is an annual that thrives in full sun and well-drained soil. It prefers a temperate climate and performs best in mild Australian conditions during spring and summer. The plant reaches about 30 to 60 cm in height and produces a generous display of bold, richly coloured blooms. It is well suited to garden beds, borders, or pots. The vibrant flowers also make excellent cut blooms and are attractive to pollinators such as bees and butterflies.

HOW TO GROW IT FROM SEED
To grow Chrysanthemum ‘Dunetti’ from seed, sow directly in the garden in early spring after the danger of frost has passed, or start indoors a few weeks earlier if desired. Scatter seeds on the surface of moist soil and lightly press them down without covering, as light aids germination. Keep the soil moist but not soggy. Germination usually occurs within 7 to 14 days in temperatures between 18°C and 22°C.

Once seedlings are large enough to handle, thin them to about 20 to 30 cm apart to allow for adequate airflow and room to grow. The plants require minimal maintenance—just regular watering, especially during dry spells, and the occasional liquid fertiliser to support blooming. Deadheading spent flowers will encourage prolonged blooming. As an annual, the plant completes its lifecycle in one season but will readily self-seed in suitable conditions, often reappearing in the following year.
