EGGPLANT CASPER JASPER WHITE SMOOTH FRENCH HEIRLOOM LESS HEAT NEEDED TO MATURE THAN OTHERS $1.30 $1.00

EGGPLANT CASPER (ALSO KNOWN AS JASPER) IS THE FRIENDLY GHOST OF THE EGGPLANTS! HE MATURES WELL EVEN IN TASMANIAN SUMMERS AS HE NEEDS LESS HEAT AND SUNSHINE TO GROW! YOU CAN PLANT HIM EARLIER THAN OTHERS BUT AFTER THE LAST FROST IS ESSENTIAL. NOVEMBER IS OPTIMAL BUT YOU CAN PLANT ALL THE WAY UNTIL NEARLY THE END OF THE YEAR IN MOST AUSTRALIAN STATES.

The Casper eggplant heirloom variety originated in France. Once consumption of the fruit became widespread, new varieties were being bred to offer thinner skins, different textures, flavours and shapes (of which most eggplants are classified – they look similar to eggs). The Casper eggplant has a pleasant teardrop shape, which if harvested young, does not need peeling. It has a mild mushroomy taste and does very well in stews and hotpots, it takes to seasonings very well indeed and is a versatile and happy friend in the garden!
