Chinese kale is also known as kailaan or Chinese broccoli. It is a popular Chinese green vegetable and is grown for its stalks and leaves. This open pollinated variety has deep green colour and good flavour.
Long succulent stems topped with compact broccoli heads that open to white flowers. All parts, even the leaves, are good eating. The taste is sweet to start, then the mustard flavour comes through. Excellent steamed, in stir-fries and laksas. Can be planted close together as its upright narrow habit grows well en masse.
Harvesting: Well-fertilized plants have thickened stems 1/2 to 3/4 inch in diameter. Cut 7 to 9 inches long, leaving terminal leaves intact. Cut leaving the roots in the soil and the plant will regenerate and give you another season of Kailaan to eat!
SEEDS MEDIUM SIZED, DARK AND ROUND, EASY TO SEE AND HANDLE.
