One of the most popular climbing pea varieties, Telephone Pole is known for its sweet flavour and high yields. This vigorous grower can reach up to 2 metres tall and produces an abundance of large, well-filled pods over an extended harvest period. It’s a versatile variety that adapts well to a wide range of climates. For best flavour, harvest when pods are plump and well-filled.

Best Time to Sow: Autumn and Winter – they thrive in cooler weather and don’t perform well in temperatures above 27°C.
Soil Preparation:
Before planting, enrich the soil with compost and/or well-aged manure.
How to Sow:
Create flat trenches 15cm wide and 5cm deep.
Sow seeds in a zig-zag pattern along the trench, spacing them 7.5cm apart.
Cover with soil and gently firm down.
Sow into moist, dark soil – avoid watering again until seedlings emerge.
Spacing:
Allow 1 metre between rows if planting more than one. Protect young plants from birds using netting or other covers.
Support & Care:
Train young seedlings onto a trellis or other support structure.
Keep soil moist and apply mulch to retain water.
No extra fertiliser is needed – as legumes, peas fix their own nitrogen.
