STRAWBERRY BARON SOLEMACHER RED SWEET ALPINE STRAWBERRIES GREAT FOR BEGINNERS! $2.30
GREAT FOR THE BEGINNER! STRAWBERRY ‘BARON SOLEMACHER’ IS AN ALPINE STRAWBERRY WITH SWEET FRUITS AND LOTS OF THEM! THEY HOLD THE FRUIT UP ABOVE THE LEAVES SO THEY ARE EASY TO PICK! 100% HEIRLOOM! NO RUNNERS TO TAKE OVER!
Belonging to the Strawberry genus (Fragaria vesca spp. alpina ‘baron solemacher’) this is a variety of Alpine strawberry. Alpine strawberries hold their fruit up in the air for picking! Alpine strawberries are much prettier than the beefy modern garden varieties, with small white flowers and fruit held high, often above the leaves.
These vivid red berries are only half an inch in diameter and grow on plants less than a foot tall. They’re also very simple to grow in the garden or on your windowsill.
Grow Notes
Easy to grow, the Alpine strawberry is great for beginner gardeners and those that like low maintenance gardens.
Prefer full to partial sun in fertile, well drained soils but they are tough little plants that can tolerate a variety of soils and withstand drought (although treating them badly won’t help the harvest).
Sow
Plant your seeds in late winter after the frost is gone and enjoy a handful or many more each day over a long growing season!
Germination
Seeds are quite small, so it’s easiest to start them off in fine-grained growing medium and add a shallow layer of topsoil. Water them very lightly so the seeds don’t get washed away.
Most Alpine strawberry seed varieties will take anywhere from 2-6 weeks to germinate depending on your climate, or between 14-21 days at around 18-21C.
Maturity
They bear fruit throughout the summer months, with production peaking in mid-summer. A perennial.
