A+ ITALIAN “ON THE NOSE” GARLIC CLOVES READY FOR PLANTING VERY FRAGRANT STRONG HARD NECK VARIETY $5.99
You will get FIVE cloves per purchase – so buy 1 and get 5, buy 2 and get 10, etc. Italian grown. This was brought over from Italy on a ship many moons ago – that was allowed then but of course is not allowed now! This is a very fragrant garlic that is easy to grow and will provide you with lovely cloves of wonderful garlic! We don’t know the original name so we have called it “On the Nose” due to it’s very fragrant nature!
HOW TO PLANT YOUR GARLIC:
Plant these in March or April to May and June (cooler areas you can start a little earlier). Make sure you remove them from any plastic wrapping and leave them in a paper bag, cardboard box or net bag (it must be open so it can breathe). Keep them in a dark and cool pantry until planting.
Choose a sunny and well drained section of your garden, work in some compost, complete fertilizer 5-10-10 is good or blood and bone underneath where the garlic cloves will rest. Water well.
When planting it doesn’t matter if some of the flesh is exposed but try to keep the papery covering on the bulbs, do not peel them. You might find that some cloves have sprouted a green stem in the bag, these can still be planted.
Plant them about 20cms apart. The pointed end facing up. Plant in rows about 15 to 25cm apart. Do not water again until you see some growth, water then but the winter should take that over for you! Fertilize again at three months.
Garlic is finished about 6 to 8 months after planting. Look for brown stems and softer stems. Pull up by the leaves or dig carefully with a fork.
We are located in Perth WA. Please consider express postage if you are over east, it’s only $3 more and will help your garlic survive the long journey. Failure to choose express postage will mean you take full responsibility for the state of your purchase when it arrives. Please remove the garlic and paper bag right away when you get it, remove the plastic ziploc bag from the paper one. Do not leave your satchel closed with the garlic inside. Your garlic will be posted with a gel packet that absorbs moisture (in the bag but not touching the garlic). Dispose of this in your general waste.
We also have the Elephant garlic and Purple Stripe variety while stocks last this season! Just search for garlic in the search bar on every page 🙂
Tips:
Your pantry where it is cool and dry is perfect for storing garlic. Make sure they have excellent air movement around them, a basket, net bag or anything where the air gets right around the cloves is best. Check every few weeks for any soft or squashy cloves in your bag and remove them from the others, dispose of those. If the bulb is still firm but has a slight covering of mould, these are ok and can still be planted, take those ones out and rub them with a soft cloth (you can also use a tiny dab of bleach of the cloth). Make sure they are perfectly dry and have no soft spots before adding them back to your storage bag. If they have small soft spots plant them right away as they can still be salvaged.
