IRISH SHAMROCK TRIFULIUM REPENS WHITE CLOVER EDIBLE MEDICINAL GROUNDCOVER $1.50
THE TRUE IRISH SHAMROCK! THE NATIONAL PLANT OF IRELAND! GREAT IN SHADED AREAS AS A COVER CROP – BEES ADORE IT AND WILL COME FROM EVERYWHERE TO GET IT! THE PRETTY WHITE FLOWERS ARE HELD ABOVE THE TRI-LEAF TO FORM A TIGHT LAWN.
It features three leaves with a stripe across them. The word shamrock comes from the Irish word seamrog which means young clover. It has sacred and national significance in Ireland and St Patrick used it as the symbol of the Holy Trinity.
The Irish shamrock is a legume which means it is highly nutritious and adds nitrogen to the soil. It doesn’t mind the shade but can tolerate some full sun, it’s a great filler!
All parts of the plant are edible except the roots. The leaves and flowers have a delicate and sweet taste and can be used fresh or dried.
It is best planted in mid-autumn to early winter in most areas with dryer conditions and in wetter areas (or if you don’t mind watering) in spring. Germination should occur around seven to 10 days after planting.
Any clover can become invasive if let to “get away”. Shaded areas will grow it well but once it reaches those hot full sun places it won’t grow as well and so under fruit trees to bring in pollinators and under other trees is good. It should thin out once it reaches places that don’t suit it as much.
Grow notes:
Plant in Spring or Summer.
Plant in well-drained soil, rake the soil, then simply scatter your seeds and water. Germination can take about 2 to 10 days. Keep the area watered until they have all popped up.
