Spaghetti Squash! Latin name Cucurbita pepo!
Looking more like a melon than a squash, this fruit can be boiled or roasted. Cut it open and with a fork run across the flesh it shreds into ready made pasta, without the extra carbs! Try it with feta and a sprinkling of herbs for a gourmet treat that is so easy to prepare.
Pick when yellow. Harvest in around 15 weeks, about 5 fruit per plant. The fruits ripen on the vine, they can be stored to last a fair while in the refrigerator or a cool pantry.
Grow Notes
Prefers full sun in fertile, well-draining soil.
Susceptible to mildew so water the roots not the leaves.
Sow
Sow direct or raise seedlings in Spring or early Summer. Plant seeds at a depth of 15mm with 100cm plant spacing and 120cm row spacing.
Keep soil moist, not wet.
