SUNFLOWER MOONWALKER EDIBLE SEEDS! RICH CHOCOLATE CENTRES UP TO 3 METRES TALL! $2.80
‘Moonwalker’ is a sunflower with presence – elegant, cheerful, and ideal for adding height and brightness to your garden. It’s the kind of plant that makes people stop and look up, smiling at the golden faces swaying gently in the breeze.
Sunflower ‘Moonwalker’ (Helianthus annuus) is a tall and stately variety that truly lives up to its name. With soft lemon-yellow petals surrounding deep chocolate centres, these flowers seem to glow against the summer sky, almost like moons rising above your garden. Bred in England in the 1980s, and probably named after Michael Jackson’s classic dance move, ‘Moonwalker’ was developed to combine height, beauty, and long flowering stems, making it a favourite for both home gardeners and florists.
Medicinally, sunflowers have a long history of use, particularly the seeds, which are rich in healthy oils, protein, and vitamin E. While ‘Moonwalker’ is mostly grown for its stunning blooms, the seeds are also edible if you let them ripen fully at the end of the season.
How to Grow:
Sow directly into the garden in spring and early summer once the soil has warmed.
Plant seeds about 2 cm deep, spaced 40–60 cm apart, and choose a sunny spot with well-draining soil.
They’ll reach impressive heights of up to 2–3 metres, so a little shelter from strong winds is helpful.
Regular watering while they establish will give you tall, strong stems, and before long you’ll have a garden full of sunny, bee-friendly blooms that last well in a vase.
Let at least one of your flowers remain on the stem until it’s seeds are ripe, save your seeds for next year! Gift them to friends and family!
